Basic Maintenance Tasks
With all the information on the web today you should know that you need to do regular maintenance tasks on your computer. The reason being is simply due to all that goes on with our computers in the background, we do need to keep on top to make sure that we are using our PC to the best it its ability. Common computer user uses that can cause a pc to slow down are:
• Installing and uninstalling software;
• Internet usage;
• Problems with Malware software such as spyware and adware;
• Infection of viruses and worms;
• Out of date system drivers.
In order to prevent pc slow down and freezes or random restarts we should do the following at the very least once a month. Below are the steps I take to make sure that my computer keeps up with me:
• Run a Malicious software removal tool;
• Remove any clutter that my system may have gathered since last clean, this includes any temporary files, internet files and duplicates;
• Clean and defragment the Windows Registry;
• Defragment the hard drives;
Now I know that this is not the complete list, I am completely aware of other tasks that do need to be done such as the updating of drivers, checking through the startup programs, backing up important data, optimizing Windows services running, but if included these steps also, this would not be considered basic maintenance tasks.
If you do the above and have never done any of them in the past you will see improvements, to what extent would depend on many factors not covered in this article. Always keep in mind however that the reason for your computer not running exactly how you want is in your control and you can do something about it.
